HOW
MICHAEL JACKSON BRANDED HIMSELF AS “THE KING OF POP”…
It is evident that with the
recent passing of Michael
Jackson, there has been an
amazing thing ocurring in social media across the globe. People are
showing their concerns for Michael Jackson and spreading news via Twitter,
Facebook,
MySpace, blogs, normal online news sites, and more to be exact.
Of course, as we know,
Michael Jackson has always been someone to talk about but this time
there’s alot of electronics going beserk around the world. He was a
very influential man no doubt within the pop culture music industry. By
utilizing television and radio, but especially Michael Jackson used the
emergence of MTV to catapult him to stardom unlike any celebrity before
him by branding himself as the “King of Pop”.
For decades Michael Jackson has
been a celebrity as he still is even after the fact that he’s passed on
forever immortalized in the hearts and minds of billions of people.
People grew up to learn of him on television and through music and
dance that even today many artist attribute their success to Michael
Jackson and the avenue he paved for thousands inside the music industry
to walk through. People even grew up with his family too as several
members like Latoya, Janet and Jermaine went on to record albums of
their own.
Tonight was the BET Music
Awards and during the performances, after every award, and during times
of intermission, I stopped counting the number of music artists across
many genres who publicly said that Michael Jackson and his music, his
dancing and his talent is what influenced some or even all of their
work at one point or another during their careers.
Although the majority of his
life was without the internet and social media that exists today,
Michael Jackson stuck to several principles in the public eye of what
is meant by “Branding YOU, Inc.”
and thereby ensuring a lasting image and impression which rocketed his
success.
- He refused to be called
anything except by, Michael Jackson, “The King of Pop“
when introduced on MTV. - He influenced others and
became an expert to others who were in the same industry branding the
MJ “style. - He had a team of Master
Minds influencing his image and getting the word spread about his music. - He was extremely consistent
with his music, his dance and his persuasion by breaking new barriers
with for the “first time” 30min special video releases on MTV, like “Remember the Time“. - He successfully branded
himself not just as a person, but on a business level too!
Below is a partial list of
music albums by Michael Jackson.

- Forever, Michael (1975)
- Off the Wall (1979)

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was
an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman. The seventh
child of the Jackson family, he made his debut on the professional
music scene in 1968 as a member of The Jackson 5. He then began a solo
career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Referred to as the
“King of Pop” in subsequent years,[2] his 1982 album Thriller remains
the world’s best-selling album of all time,[3] and four of his other
solo studio albums are among the world’s best-selling records: Off the
Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).
In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and
the first African American entertainer to amass a strong crossover
following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV,
such as “Beat It”, “Billie Jean” and “Thriller”—widely
credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into
an art form—helped bring the relatively new channel to fame.
Videos such as “Black or White” and “Scream” made Jackson an enduring
staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos,
Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance
techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical
sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary
R&B artists across several generations.
Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes
through his foundations, charity singles, and support of 39 charities.
Other aspects of his personal life, including his often changing
appearances and eccentric behavior, generated significant controversy
which damaged his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual
abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of
evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer had experienced health
concerns since the early 1990s and conflicting reports regarding the
state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and
fathered three children, actions which caused further controversy. In
2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse
allegations and several other charges.
One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness
World Records—including one for “Most Successful Entertainer
of All Time”—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his
solo career, and the sale of 750 million records worldwide.[4] At the
time of his death, he was preparing for This Is It, a series of 50
concerts that would have been held in London beginning July 13, 2009.[5]
This article and VIDEO above is about Michael Jackson and the TRUTH of
how he independently branded the MJ image and himself which enabled
tremendous success. Michael Jackson became a name to be remembered
impressed upon the minds of billions of people worldwide and left a
legacy of music and atistry that enabled others to venture forward in
their endeavors following in the footsteps of the “King of Pop” Michael
Jackson.
Michael Jackson was trully a pioneer in revolutionizing an industry and
by branding himself “offline” a concept unknown to markerters during
times when the internet was barely coming of age, the television and
cable TV and the emergence of MTV fueled the growth of Michael
Jackson’s celebrity status. When companies and corporations were trying
to promote their products and services, they saw an opportunity to
utilize the fame and endorsements of celebrity figures such as Michael
Jackson. Pepsi for example signed a “One Billion Dollar” contract with
Michael Jackson prior to sexual misconduct charges filed against him.
Mixed with multiple talents and as a philantropist, Michael Jackson
touched the lives of us all and will be missed.
Rest In Peace.
Michael Joseph Jackson
